Winners of Valencia field trip project announced
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, BA Marketing students had the opportunity to attend a study tour to Valencia.
The purpose of the trip was to promote internationalisation, strengthen the course community, build on students’ cultural awarenessand provide insight into local marketing techniques.
Activities included a tour of the Mestalla stadium, home of Valencia FC, where attendees learnt aboutthe various marketing techniques that are integral to the football club’s brand. There was also a visit to the factory of‘Horchata’ – a famous local drink consisting of tiger nuts and milk– as well as the Museum of Science and Arts and the Oceanographic museum- one of the biggest in the world. Whilst at Horchata, students were able to observe the factory operations and learnt about the company’s core marketing activities.
Students commented about the visit:
“Everything was amazing in the trip. Even the 9am wake ups were necessary as it got everyone up to enjoy the whole dayto explore the city. The lecturers were all amazing as well and made the trip all the more enjoyable and fun”.
“I was able to explore a new culture that I had never really experienced before. It allowed me to see how other countries operate and what they hold dear”.
“It took us out of a lecture hall and off seats. It was active learning and engaging in cultural awareness whilst developing skillsthat ULMS want to see in their students. I feel more developed as a student manager (rather than a management school student)”.
“It made me realise how important it is to indulge in diverse cultures and made me really believe that any potential migration can be possible without a budget”.
As part of the trip, students were tasked with completing a field trip project. The project required students to create a blog and accompanying video that promoted Valencia to potential visitors.
Completed entries were evaluated by Becs Jeffery, CEO of Fi and Becs, who has previously delivered a number of workshops to students at the Management School.
Becs commented “I was delighted to be asked to judge the Video Production and Blog Writing Competition entries from the recent student trip to Valencia. The entries were absolutely brilliant, full of personality, creativity and engaging footage – they were fantastic to watch whilst being trapped at home in lockdown! You could really tell what a great experience the students had on the trip and see how much time, effort and planning had gone into producing their videos.”
“After watching all the videos (a few times!) and reading the blog entries I chose a winning team and it was great to meet the winning students (via Zoom of course!) last week. The winning video, called ‘Valencia – A Guide for Food Lovers’ was really well put together, excellently filmed and well produced – I also loved the food-based theme! To create a great video it is important to have consistency, a clear theme, a well-planned structure, good attention to detail and some touches of personality – all of which I could find in this video. I was really impressed… and a bit hungry! Their blog article was also really nicely written, easy to read and well-structured with good images.”
“A huge well done to the winning team!”
