Master’s students benefit from work experience placements
A number of master’s students recently benefited from work experience placements to help enhance their future employability.
The placements came as a result of the ‘We can work it out’ consultancy challenge which required students to solve a consultancy problem for various organisations. Due to the success of the initiative, the Management School worked with the involved employers to offer multiple work experience placements over a two week period.
After receiving applications for the available placements, four students were offered positions. Bianca Doroftei was offered a place by the University of Liverpool’s postgraduate marketing team, Mohammed Zahidul Mustakim undertook a project for Mando whilst Yuchun Zhou and Zi Ye were successful in securing a placement at RadWraps.
During the work experience, students had the opportunity to work on projects that applied the skills and knowledge they have learnt during their studies to a real working environment.
Jonathan Seal, Director of Experience at Mando, said “Zahid has been a fantastic asset to Mando in the time we’ve had him on board. From the first moment of interview he stood out with his clear thinking and calm, structured approach. I was able to give him direction, work with him to agree objectives and from there he was very effective at managing his time and reporting back on progress, challenges and to refine his approach.
The outputs Zahid has created while here are immediately useful and will also act as the basis for supporting us in the future.”
Louise Mustchin, Postgraduate Advice and Guidance Team Leader, said “The consultancy challenge was excellent preparation for the kind of assessments that students will face whilst job searching. The students who took part developed valuable problem solving, presentation and team work skills – these skills are consistently cited as important by graduate employers.
Students and employers really enjoyed the challenge and I look forward to “we can work it out” 2020!
