ULMS undergraduates participate in work shadowing pilot
A group of 23 undergraduate students are participating in a pilot work shadowing scheme with several local businesses in order to expand their networks and develop some of the skills needed in the workplace.
The pilot was launched in January and will continue through till June to allow time for the student and their matched business to spend the day together. Partners at the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and Professional Liverpool helped promote the pilot by engaging with business leaders from the Professional and Business Services sector and asking them to volunteer.
Lee Wainwright, Employability Projects Officer, said, “The work shadowing project offers students the opportunity to experience a professional working environment, gain confidence in visiting an unfamiliar setting, and learn more about a sector or profession they may be interested in pursuing in future. It’s also a good addition to their CVs.”
Hazel Kennedy, Business Development Officer, said, “Our local business community is always keen to support our students and contribute to their development. We fully appreciate that not all organisations can offer internships or placements so the work-shadowing project is an ideal way for businesses to help and make a real difference to the student they are matched with.”
Lucy Dobson, third year BA Business Management student, said "I spent the day work shadowing at a local company and I wanted to thank you for letting me know about such a great opportunity. The day was very informative and exciting. Hopefully the relationships I was able to build will help with my future career options and potentially allow me to do more work experience with them."
