Undergraduate students prepare for assessment centre simulation
Undergraduate students have been preparing for an assessment centre simulation day which will be taking place in April at Anfield Stadium.
The assessment centre is part of the Placement Preparation module for first year undergraduates and aims to help get students ready for when they are applying for Year in Industry placements. The process has involved a number of sessions covering various topics including completing application forms, interview techniques, CV workshops and sourcing employer information.
The latest session focused on assessment centre preparation and aimed to build students’ confidence by making them more aware of typical activities that take place. Attendees were given tips on how to prepare and advice for the day itself including negative behaviours that should be avoided. They were also given some practise group exercises to complete including an e-tray task as well as a case study.
At the end of the session students were asked if they felt their skills had improved as a result of the workshops. Many of them said that they had seen a significant improvement in their presentation skills as they now know what to expect.
Darren Siggers, Undergraduate Placement Officer at the Careers & Employability Service, commented “The Careers & Employability Service has delivered a series of workshops and experiences in ULMS170 which have built students up to participating in the Simulated Assessment Centre. All 355 students have completed group activities, individual tasks, and completed a practice interview with a local organisation prior to their day at Anfield. These experiences have helped the students grow in confidence when faced with a range tasks the placement recruitment process will ask of them. Culminating in the Simulated Assessment Centre, students will be prepared to show potential future employers how excellent they can be in the workplace.
Having organised and delivered on the Placement Preparation Module for the last 4 academic years, I know the experience, confidence, and impact of the module is massive for these students and has a positive impact on their chances of securing a year placement.”
