Mecato supported has been contributing to a research project led by Dr Zenon Michaelides in developing a Connected Cities Platform for a number of partnering Local Authorities from the North West UK , including AGMA and Liverpool City Council.
Mercato Solutions was founded in 2000 as a software development company that focuses on creating data-centric solutions. Its award-winning app development platform, KnowledgeKube, is being used by organisations across the UK including IBM, Crown Commercial Services and Birmingham City Council.
Partner Manager at Mercato Solutions, Steve Vallis comments: “We wanted to approach university students and introduce KnowledgeKube as a rapid application development tool to encourage them to create apps that make a difference. This will not only enhance their technical and creative skills, but learning KnowledgeKube means opening doors to a world of opportunities.”
After hearing about the background of the company and being introduced to the KnowledgeKube, the MSc students were invited to take part in a competition to design their own cutting-edge app. The prize amounts to over £30,000 and includes hosting for 12 months, design services, two weeks of additional implementation services and a choice of an Android or Apple device.
Zenon Michaelides, Lecturer and Director of Studies for the MSc Big Data Management and MSc Digital Business Enterprise Management, addressed students after the talk and said, “This is an excellent opportunity to experience how real world companies develop winning Business Apps whilst utilising cutting edge digital software solutions. I am looking forward to reviewing your suggestions and seeing you develop your ideas from concept to deployment.”
The competition will run until 1 March 2018 and the winner will be announced on 19 March 2018. In the meantime, find out more information about Mercato Solutions and the rapid application development platform, KnowledgeKube.
