The University of Liverpool Management School have been met with success at the IBM sponsored Universities Business Challenge this year, with multiple teams making it through to the finals against 290 national teams.

Teams are made up from students from all undergraduate programmes, representing the Management School in the semi-finals in Edinburgh, Bristol and Sheffield.

The Universities Business Challenge Worldwide is the world’s longest established and leading undergraduate simulation-based competition designed to develop employability and enterprise skills. The UBC offers undergraduates within universities a unique opportunity to improve their knowledge of the business world, put theory into practice and develop their team-working, leadership and employability skills by participating in a team-based competitive challenge.

All competing teams took part in a business simulation over a period of 5 weeks in semester one. The teams with the highest profit margins were then invited to particpate in the semi-finals against other universities.

In Edinburgh, 20 teams competed in total, with the top 3 going through to the finals in London. Three teams from the school were placed at 6th, 4th and another winning in first place with the other two teams placed in the 11-20 group. The winning team included Junfu Chen, Magie Teoh, Richelle Tsai (all BA Accounting and Finance) Amy Hall (BA Business Management) and Hon Ming Chung (BA Economics).

The 4th place team was Jingwen Wang, Yejia Ding, Siyu Chen (all BA Accounting and Finance), Lanjun Zhu and Cheng Cheng (both BA Economics).

A further 10 teams competed against 25 other universities in Sheffield and Bristol. Management School teams secured 6th and 3rd place in the Sheffield semi-finals with the third place team securing a place in the final. The team included Alex Williams (BA Business Management), Weize Liu (BA Accounting and Finance), Dominique Monaghan, Victoria Hunter and Federica Picceri (all BA Marketing with a Year in Industry).

A total of 10 teams from universities nationally will be competing at the UBC finals on the 24th March at IBM's head office in London.
