The University of Liverpool Management School hosted the first in a series of high profile guest speaker events with an overview of “Exporting to China”.

The event was held in the Brett Building, the School’s exclusive MBA suite, on Tuesday 21st February and was open to MBA students, alumni and industry professionals. Dr Jo Meehan, Director of Studies for the Liverpool MBA, ran the event in partnership with the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) who extended the invitation to their members. The school also invited local business representatives who are, or are looking to, export their products to China, providing students with exposure to business with the potential to network.

Speaking at the event was Jessica Zhang, China Business Advisor for the CBBC, MBA alumnus and business owner Peter Van Berkum and Dr Shubin Wu, lecturer in international strategy at the Management School.

Jessica Zhang spoke about the importance of the Chinese market for business growth, the challenges, opportunities, and the services which the CBBC can offer to support business development.

Peter van Berkum graduated from the Liverpool MBA in 2016 and has since started his own company, Trade Winds. Whilst studying at the Management School, Peter did a work based project on evaluating different market entry modes for a local company and Trade Winds offers these services professionally. Peter spoke about his interest and involvement in exporting good to China.

Dr Shubin Wu shared some emerging research findings which offer an insight into the wider global trade environment.

This session was the first in a series of three which will be hosted throughout the academic year. In addition, MBA students are also invited to attend regular masterclasses with a guest speaker.
