Member of the Advisory Board and Advisor on the Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA speaks to The Irish Field
Sally Rowley-Williams, University of Liverpool Management School Advisory Board and Advisor on the Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA, gave an exclusive interview to the Irish Field. The weekly newspaper is Ireland’s only dedicated newspaper for racing and equestrian sports.
Sally has extensive experience working in the horseracing industry and is Lifetime Honorary President of Women in Racing, an international not for profit organisation which she founded in 2009. Her previous appointments include the Racehorse Owners Association, numerous industry committees for British Horseracing, Director of the International Women’s Forum UK, and Trustee and Audit Committee Member for The Pony Club, a global charity. She has been a racehorse owner for over 25 years with Grade 1 and Group successes.
Sally, who now lives in the USA, spoke to The Irish Field about how she first developed an interest in racehorse ownership 30 years ago. The interviews touches on topics such as the drawbacks of owning a racehorse and important qualities to look for in a trainer. Sally reflects on her time living and working in the UK on the Racehorse Owner’s Association Council where she developed the Gold Standard programme. This initiative encourages race courses in the UK to improve facilities and better monitor horse welfare.
Sally’s advice to those considering buying a race horse is to “surround yourself with wise honest people that you respect and trust, yet don’t be afraid to voice your opinion to make suggestions and to partner with your trainer in the ups and downs of horseracing”.
Sally also has an extensive background in business with 37 years of international experience in international banking. This blend of industry and business experience makes her a valuable advisor to the School’s Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA. The programme is the only masters-level qualification in the world to be delivered through an exclusive partnership with Britain’s Horserace Betting Levy Board and the British Horseracing Authority. The programme has a real business focus built on industry links with owners, trainers, leading racecourses and the media and extends to the gambling industry.
