Breakfast Briefing: Professor Costas Milas
An inaugural Breakfast Briefing, introduced by Management School Director, Professor Julia Balogun, took place at the Management School today.
Professor Costas Milas, Professor of Finance, spoke to guests and staff about the UK economy following the Brexit vote.
His insightful covered topics such as growth and GDP, exchange rates and exports, relationships with international trading partners, inflation, unemployment, the cost of borrowing, and investment, all of which, he explained, are experiencing uncertainty in the current economic and political climate.
Professor Milas also touched on recent events, such as the High Court's ruling on the legalities of the Government triggering Article 50 and the US Presidential Election result, both of which have caused increasing uncertainty in an already volatile economic climate.
The presentation was followed by questions from the floor, including advice for SME's, the impact of changing interest rates on savings and loans, the impact of Brexit on foreign companies with bases in the UK, and the impact on the housing market.
This Breakfast Brieifing session was the first in a series planned by the Management School, with the next session expected to take place early 2017.
