Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA (THIMBA) students recently visited the National Stud at Newmarket as part of their last field trip for this academic year.

This bespoke day focused on the welfare aspects of breeding in the thoroughbred industry and included tailored lectures on youngstock production, pregnancy diagnosis and management complications, and feeding the weanling and yearling in preparation for the sales. The students were also treated to a behind the scenes tour including a stallion covering a mare and the foaling unit.

Dr Ellen Singer, Senior Lecturer in Equine Orthopaedics, said: “This visit complimented the welfare module content and together with the visits to trainers’ yards and a behind the scenes race day, has helped present a holistic view to the students.”
