MSc Programme and Project Management students visit GlaxoSmithKline London headquarters
A number of MSc Programme and Project Management students were invited by GSK to visit their headquarters in London last month.
The Management School’s strong links with the pharmaceutical giant provided the students with the opportunity to network with employees from different departments and learn more about the company’s graduate scheme.
Students were able to have one-to-one discussions with graduates currently undertaking the scheme and participate in interactive session with the company’s HR department. HR staff individually reviewed students’ CVs and gave advice as to how they could be improved. They also advised the students with tips on how to best represent themselves in interviews and what qualities they as recruiters look for in applicants.
During the day, the MSc students were able to see first-hand how resource planning software SAP ERP system is used in industry. MSc Programme and Project Management delivers a module centred on SAP systems so students were able to gain insight into how GSK deploy the SAP ERP system globally.
Abdulrazak Gashash, a student from MSc Programme and Project Management, found the day particularly beneficial:
‘I used the opportunity to talk to employees and ask questions about challenges, processes, and the structure required for the implementation of the SAP ERP system in the organisation. This helped me gain a more practical insight in the subject and has helped me gain better understanding of my module. It also helped me understand more about the complexities and risks involved in a project of this magnitude.
‘Overall, the event has helped me gain valued knowledge that is related to my MSc and also gave me a feel as to what the job market is like.’
