Aldi Representative Speaks to Students About Their Prestigious Placement Scheme
Aldi Logistics Director, Darren Binns, gave the talk about Aldi’s placement scheme for current first and second year students at the University of Liverpool Management School.
He spoke to students about what the scheme entailed, the benefits and the many challenges successful candidates will face across their year in industry.
Darren said: “You want to send the signal to employers that they should invest time and money into employing you. You need to show that you can add something to their business. The key things employers look for are candidates who have attended a good university, achieved good grades and have work experience – that makes a credible application. If you have the opportunity to go on a placement, then do.”
The Management School have introduced the year in industry scheme across all of its undergraduate courses. This gives students the opportunity to spend their third year out in industry on a paid placement before returning to their final year studies in year 4.
Darren emphasised that the Aldi placement is a spring board into a graduate career with many students often returning to the company. Four of our current ULMS students are working at Aldi at the moment as part of the placement scheme which offers a £25,000 salary in locations across the UK.
He explained that unlike many alternative placement’s, Aldi’s scheme was “challenging and hands-on” with applicants expected to work over 50 hours a week with real leadership responsibility, down to managing their own store within 6 to 9 months.
Roisin Cassidy, a BA Accounting and Finance student, said:
“I am only a first year student but decided to attend the session to gain knowledge of placements sooner rather than later. It was definitely worthwhile. I gained a whole spectrum of information and knowledge”.
