ULMS Hosts UG Prize Giving Ceremony

The University of Liverpool Management School held its Undergraduate prize giving event on Tuesday the 4th November in the atrium.

The awards celebrated current students’ academic successes. Interim director of the School, Prof. Michael McKenzie hosted the ceremony and awarded the students with their signed certificates.

During his opening speech, he said: “This is the enjoyable part of the job for me because I get to meet people who have done really well. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet people under such good circumstances. It is really important because celebrating success is a big part of what Liverpool University is all about”.

The Management School welcomed a special guest, Ann Vassie, Branch President CIMA Merseyside to award the prestigious Sue Parker Memorial Prize to Huiyan Wan for best performance in the financial management module.

Abdul Sharif, a BA Accounting and Finance student won the William Kelbrick Prize. Students were invited to submit an application and budget relating to an activity that they wish to undertake during the second and third year of their studies which will support the development of their leadership skills career ambitions.

After winning his award, Abdul said: “I can’t believe it. It’s such a privilege to win such a prestigious award from the University so I am amazed.

The University have certainly supported me. Sandra Hughes has given me so much support in applying for the scholarship. The heads of Accounting and Finance have supported me also, along with lecturers.

I want to pursue a career as a charted accountant and work my way up in a big firm. That’s my aim for the future.”

Charlotte Marris who won student of the year award for BA Business Management said:

“It’s given me a confidence boost and good motivation for this year to do better. Winning this award is not something that many people have achieved in their time at University. Employers will look at it and think that it is impressive. It makes you stand out along with other things in your CV."
