Class of 2021 graduate Olivia Bennett is currently a Marketing Executive at Channel 4 - with experience in EMEA roles, Olivia connects brands and audiences worldwide.

Can you tell us about your journey after graduation?

I am currently a Marketing Executive at Channel 4 and am very proud to be working for such an iconic company. Since graduation I have developed my skills and experience to become a marketing and partnerships professional having previously worked at Warner Bros Discovery as a Brand Coordinator for Adult Swim across EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). I have used my knowledge of the entertainment industry and my strong passion for TV, music and film, to help connect brands and audiences globally.

Do you have any pointers for students thinking of studying in university, with the hope of graduating and working in the entertainment industry in the future?

I get asked a lot about how to get into the entertainment industry and whilst it is challenging it is definitely worth it! With such a competitive industry it is important to stand out. There are lots of extra opportunities you can utilise whilst at university, which make great talking points in interviews.

Everyone can say they watch TV so also make sure to research the company and brands you will be working on and demonstrate your research in applications and interviews.

How did your time with ULMS prepare you for your current role?

My extracurricular activities at ULMS were the reason I was able to get into the entertainment industry. Whilst at ULMS I did a semester abroad at the University of Georgia and summer schools in Norway. These helped me to stand out in my application processes and helped me to gain my placement year at Cartoon Network.

I would really recommend doing a placement year as it gives you really valuable professional and personal experience (especially if you get to move to a new city). I also recommend getting involved with societies.

In my final year, I was on two society committees - I acted as the Marketing Officer for Liverpool Guild Student Media which helped me to have tangible social media experience which I could add to my CV.
