Dr Fabienne Marret-Davies

Reader in Environmental Sciences

Can you tell us about your role and your career pathway?

I am a Reader in Physical Geography and a PHD holder.

I am extremely passionate about STEMM due to it contributing to the better understanding of how the climate has changed and what could it be for us in the future.

I always experienced enthusiastic teachers, who inspired me to study Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-Level. Having always 'been a bit of a geek' I was curious to know everything about life and the universe, which inspired me to study a STEMM subject.

What do you most enjoy in your role?

In my role as a Reader, I enjoy learning something new, and sharing this with my students.

Do you have any areas of expertise?

My expertise is understanding how climate has changed in the past using tiny micro-organisms preserved in the sediments of the oceans and seas.

What has been your most exciting project?

I have too many exciting career projects to choose from, but my most exciting project is being part of a scientific community working together to better understand how our planet has changed through recent times.

What are your top tips for working in your industry

Be collegial - involve yourself with specialised societies to build up your network. You’ll never work on your own and you are part of a community.
