Margherita Guido (Alumna)

Can you tell us about your current role and what it entails?

I am the Associate Product Manager at Medacta International, a worldwide company specialising in the design, production, and distribution of innovative products for joint replacement, spine surgery, and sports medicine. I am a part of the Hip Replacement team, and focus on the development of surgical approaches for hip replacement and related instruments and supporting tools.

As part of the headquarters team, I'm involved in a wide variety of activities, ranging from monitoring the scientific literature - to identify supporting evidence and the latest innovations -, managing distribution of our products with Supply Chain and local teams, to liaising with orthopaedic surgeons and the R&D team for the continuous improvement of the products they offer. I also support the creation of technical documentation as well as marketing collaterals and help manage Medical Education events organized by the company.

I am extremely proud to contribute to an international company that is present in 53 countries and represents the fastest growing company for hip and knee replacement among the 10 largest orthopaedic companies worldwide.

What did you study at university and why did you choose that degree?

I graduated with an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the School of Engineering at the University of Liverpool. I chose this as it represents a strong opportunity to combine the study of multiple scientific disciplines, from materials design and tissue engineering to project management.

Do you have any advice for current/future students?

Be curious, be willing to approach new fields of study, work hard, and the University of Liverpool will open the doors to an international career!
