Imogen Howarth (Alumna)

What did you study at university and why did you choose that degree?

I studied Engineering with Product Design (MEng) at the University of Liverpool because it was the perfect combination of both technical and creative skills – my favourite subjects at school were textiles, art and science.

Can you tell us about your career pathway?

After graduating from the University of Liverpool, I became a Design Engineer on the Product Development Graduate Scheme at Aston Martin Lagonda. Working in the Body Interior Trim department, I helped to develop the next generation of Aston Martin Interiors. This job involved a combination of creative problem solving, engineering and design – ranging from building prototypes in the workshop to testing out supercars.

My next job was at Dyson as Advanced Design Engineer - Automotive, before joining Singer Vehicle Design, where I am now Director of Special Projects & Specifications.

What did you enjoy about studying Engineering at Liverpool?

Not only were the facilities and opportunities at Liverpool brilliant, but the city was a really lively and exciting place to spend four years and I really enjoyed my time there.  During my studies I completed a number of industrial summer placements – this really helped me to work out what direction to take my career in. A placement at Jaguar Land Rover (inspired by a university trip to the Halewood Plant) got me interested in the automotive industry and the rest is history!
