Professor Katie Atkinson
Can you tell us about your role and any research you are involved with?
I am Professor of Computer Science and Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Liverpool, UK.
My research is on the subject of computational models of argument, which is a topic within the general field of artificial intelligence. A particular focus of my research is AI and Law, specifically computational argumentation for modelling legal reasoning. I work on both fundamental aspects of these research topics and applications in collaboration with industry partners and have published over one hundred and fifty research papers.
I served as President of the International Association for AI and Law in 2016 and 2017. I have been appointed to serve on the Computer Science and Informatics sub-panel in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
