Dr Fabienne Marret-Davies

Reader in Environmental Sciences

Fabienne is a Reader in Physical Geography and a PHD holder, she is passionate about STEMM due to “contributing to better understanding of how the climate has changed and what could it be for us in the future.”

Fabienne experienced enthusiastic teachers, who inspired her to study Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-Level. She states how she “has always been a bit of a geek” Fabienne was curious to know everything about life and the universe, which inspired her to study a STEMM subject.

In her role as a Reader, Fabienne most enjoys learning something new, and sharing this with her students. Her area of expertise is understanding how climate has changed in the past using tiny micro-organisms preserved in the sediments of the oceans and seas. Fabienne has too many exciting career projects to choose from, but states that her most exciting project is being part of a scientific community working together to better understand how our planet has changed through "recent" times. She states this is “pretty exciting”.

Fabiennes’ top tip for working the sector is “To be collegial, involve yourself with specialised societies to build up your network.” The best piece of advice that Fabienne would like to share about working/studying STEMM areas is that you’ll never work on your own and you are part of a community.
