How modelling and monitoring tools play an important role in addressing coastal problems

Please provide us with your experience or perspectives on the use of modelling and/or monitoring in support of interventions for enhancing coastal resilience. If you have specific examples that you can share, we’d be pleased to hear about them.
Are models too much of a simplistic version of complex reality that they do not provide effective support for decision making? Do they require too much expert knowledge to use and to understand their limitations? If models contradict each other, does this create a serious problem?
What about monitoring tools? Do you know enough about them? Are they too costly to consider? Does monitoring help in deciding how to address a coastal problem.
