Scaffolding: the bonds we create with Lauren Elkin

Lauren Elkin is the author of several books including Flâneuse: Women Walk the City, which was a Radio 4 Book of the Week, a New York Times Notable Nonfiction book of 2017, and a finalist for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel award for the Art of the Essay.

Her most recent book is Art Monsters: Unruly Bodies in Feminist Art. Her writing has appeared in many publications, including Granta, the London Review of Books, Frieze, Le Monde, Harper's, and The New York Times.

She is also an award-winning translator, most recently of Simone de Beauvoir's previously unpublished novel The Inseparables; upcoming translations include Colombe Schneck's The Paris Trilogy, Simone de Beauvoir's Les Belles Images, and Constance Debré's No Name (Semiotext(e). A native New Yorker, she lived in Paris for twenty years and is now based in London. Scaffolding is her first novel in English.
