About
Having qualified in 1990, I worked in General Dental Practice in Liverpool for two years, followed by two years in Community Dentistry. In 1995 I took the post of Senior Dental Officer in Sedation & Special Care Dentistry, working mainly in the district general hospital setting, and continued in that role for the following 15 years. My main clinical interests at that time encompassed management of patients within the remit of Special Care Dentistry, in particular, management of the medically compromised patient, mental health disorders, the elderly and those with communication difficulties. I also worked as a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry within the hospitals in which I was based.
Since that period, I took up a post within the Dental School, undertaking the role of Director of Dental Care Professionals Programme (Diploma). The Programme enabled students to gain the qualification of Combined diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy and as well as being the Director of the programme, I also undertook clinical supervision of students and continued to undertake other clinical duties such as dental sedation.
As the diploma programme has now ceased, I am now focussing my clinical activities on the area of Paediatric Dentistry, providing clinical teaching for the undergraduate students.
