Timeline
- 2000: February - Comments by the Bishop of Liverpool about Section 28 cause the Guild Council to pass policy condemning his position. Liverpool Student newspaper article “Liverpool Bishop in Gay Row”.
- 2003: Discrimination in employment on the grounds of sexual orientation is made illegal. November – Section 28 is finally repealed by the government. There is a celebration event in the Guild to mark the occasion.
- 2004: March – Guild Council approves motions on discrimination by the National Blood Service against gay men. It also approved motions on ‘Gay Rights in America’ and Transgender awareness. May – Guild Council approved motions on the Gender Recognition Bill and the Partnership Bill.
