Many agencies and charities provide funding for fellowships and grants, below is a list of some fellowship opportunities that are regularly available.
We welcome application for personal fellowships from:

- Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship
- Royal Commission 1851 Research Fellowships
- Royal Society University Research Fellowships
- Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships
- Royal Society Newton International Fellowships
- Royal Society Education Research Fellowship.
Most of these opportunities are open to candidates of any nationality, but each has specific rules and regulations with respect to career stage (e.g. minimum or maximum number of years post-PhD).
Please check your eligibility carefully for any given scheme before approaching a potential sponsor.
Process for applying
Where appropriate, you are expected to contact a member of academic staff that is undertaking research in your area of interest as early as possible, to act as a sponsor during the application process.
Applicants should submit an Expression of Interest (.docx, 17.2 KB) at least two months before the submission deadlines. The expression of interest should include:
- Complete details of the scheme, with information about its deadlines and links to the relevant pages on the funder's website
- Confirmation of the applicant's eligibility for the scheme in question
- Details of the proposed fellowship project, including title, a project description with aims/objectives, deliverables, and timeframe (500 words maximum)
- Contact details of two referees.
If approval to submit a full application is granted, we will support you strongly in both writing the proposal and preparing for the interview.
