Business of Science Leadership Award for Professor Rasmita Raval

Professor of Chemistry, Rasmita Raval, has been awarded the 2019 Business of Science Leadership Award for the public sector or charity category.
The Business of Science Leadership Awards celebrates the notable leadership and significant contributions of individuals to the commercialisation of science.
Professor Raval was presented with the award by John Weir (PZ Cussons) and Steve Bennet (Business of Science Director).
Professor Raval said: “It was a great honour to be presented with this award which reflects the considerable work we have carried out in the field of anti-microbial and anti-infective surfaces across multiple technology sectors, and our commitment to the promotion of science and innovation at the highest level.”
Professor Raval is also Director of the Surface Science Research Centre and the Director of the Open Innovation Hub for Antimicrobial Surfaces at the University. She is also co-founder and academic co-director of the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC).
Her research includes rational design of advanced functional surfaces and bio-interfaces with a strong emphasis on multi- and inter-disciplinarity.
She has strong experience in engaging with the private sector by promoting active academic-industry R&D collaboration programmes, and has close collaborations with the NHS and clinicians.
