Advice I wish someone had given me when I was a fresher

Third-year Law student Iman Al. Balushi shares the things that he wishes someone would have told him when he was a fresher.

Hey there! As a current student at the School of Law and Social Justice, I've learned a lot since my first year. Looking back, there are a few things that I wish someone had told me when I was a fresher that would have made my transition to university life much smoother. So, let me share some of these things with you!

Firstly, don't stress out if you don't have everything figured out. Uni is a time to explore and discover, and it's okay to change your mind along the way. There's a ton of pressure to know exactly what you want to do after university, which clubs to join, and which courses to take. But hey, it's perfectly fine not to have all the answers.

Another tip I'd give you is to manage your time effectively. Uni can be a bit overwhelming, especially when you're trying to balance your studies with extracurricular activities and a social life. One thing that helped me was creating a schedule or using a planner to stay on top of everything. And don't forget to take breaks and take care of yourself to avoid burnout!

Getting involved in extracurricular activities is another great way to make the most out of your university experience. The University has a huge range of clubs and societies, so there's bound to be something that catches your interest. Joining a club or society is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and have fun!

Don't forget to make use of the study resources available to you as well. The University of Liverpool has a wealth of resources, from libraries and online databases to study skills workshops. Don't wait until you're struggling to seek out help - make use of these resources early on to improve your academic performance.

If you're struggling with anything, please don't hesitate to ask for help. The University has some fantastic support services, from academic advisors to mental health support and career services. These guys are here to help you, so don't be shy about reaching out if you need it.

Lastly, don't compare yourself to others. University can be a competitive environment, but it's important to remember that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Focus on your own progress and growth, and don't worry too much about what other people are doing.

Oh, and one more thing - explore the city! Liverpool is an amazing city with so much to see and do. Take some time to check out new restaurants and cafes, attend local events, and explore the city. It's an excellent way to take a break from studying and experience everything Liverpool has to offer.

Remember, university is an exciting time full of new experiences and opportunities. With the right mindset and approach, you can make the most out of your time here!
