Research Overview

My main research areas are around best interests and medical interventions for gender diverse and intersex children and adolesents within healthcare. Much of my work has been spent comparatively analysing the different approaches to the provision or non-provision of medical interventions. I have also been involved with emperical work, researching with children, focussing on healthcare experiences and restrictive practice. I am a member of the European Children's Rights Unit and the Health Law and Regulation Unit. In addition, I have a keen interest in research ethics involving children, co-authoring guidance available at the National Centre for Research Methods. In acknowledgment of this I am Vice-Chair for the Central University Research Ethics Committee.

I am currently writing a book on how best interests operates in everyday medical interventions for childhood physical development.

I am interested in supervising PhDs in his areas of experitse, in particular best interests and medical interventions associated with intersex conditions or gender diverse children and adolescents.
