European Union Law & NCD Prevention

The Law & NCD Unit has been at the forefront of the academic debates relating to the role that the EU has played, and could play, in preventing NCDs.

The Unit has developed specific expertise on a range of issues, from overarching issues such as the scope of EU competence or the impact of EU internal market law on Member States’ NCD prevention strategies, to more specific issues, such as tobacco standardised packaging or alcohol minimum unit pricing.

Members of the Unit participated in a policy workshop in Oslo, organised jointly by the McCabe Centre on Law and Cancer and by the Norwegian Cancer Society, on 'Standardized Tobacco Packaging in Europe: Legal Issues at Domestic, EU and International levels'.
