Workshop on Building the First European Network on National Human Rights Action Planning
4 - 6 June 2025, School of Law and Social Justice.
University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice is hosting a three-day workshop on building the first European Network on National Human Rights Action Planning. This project is led by Dr Azadeh Chalabi, a world leading expert on National Human Rights Action Planning, and supported by the International Law and Human Rights Unit. It is funded by the Research England Policy Support Fund (PSF).
The workshop will bring together participants from the Council of Europe (the European Commissioner for Human Rights, European Court of Human Rights, and other Council of Europe human rights bodies), the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNDP, human rights NGOs, governmental organisations, national human rights institutions, academics as well as those practitioners who have been, directly or indirectly, involved in developing, implementing, monitoring and/or evaluating NHRAPs in European countries.
The aim is to build a lasting network to share good practices and identify issues related to NHRAPing as well as response strategies to enhance the effectiveness of NHRAPs in different phases. This workshop will also explore the role of OHCHR, UN human rights treaty bodies, NHRIs and NGOs in different phases of NHRAPing, and include discussions on human rights measurement initiatives, UPR, digitalisation and collaborative planning on human rights issues which go beyond national borders such as the right to environment, climate change and sustainability.
We invite participants from both European and non-European countries as the goal is to lay the ground for the network to embark upon a self-amplifying process beyond Europe. Please note that there is no fee for this event, but it is not open to public.
If you have been, directly or indirectly, involved in NHRAPing and are interested to participate in this workshop, please contact us at NHRAPnetwork@liverpool.ac.uk as soon as possible before Monday 10 March 2025.
