Outreach

The Liverpool Law School welcome applications from talented students from all backgrounds and are committed to Widening Participation (WP) in higher education by encouraging people from non-traditional backgrounds to apply to study with us. We also offer a range of talks, presentations and workshops to schools and colleges, designed to support students’ progression into higher education. These can be delivered either on campus or within your school or college.

Our widening participation strategy reflects our ‘social justice’ ethos and is a core part of our identity. We believe that higher education plays an important role in advancing social mobility and equalising opportunities.

We work closely with the Widening Participation and Outreach team in running summer schools, visit days and outreach activities for prospective applicants from low-participation backgrounds.

Our Recruitment Team visits sixth forms and colleges across the North West, delivering talks and workshops covering topics such as:

• The UCAS Process
• Student Finance
• Student Life
• Reference Writing for Teachers

Law taster days

Our law taster days are designed for Year 10, 11 and 12 pupils. They offer an exciting introduction to university life, the study of law, and the work of the Liverpool Law Clinic. The Taster Days are organised with Schools/Tutors for groups of pupils and not for individual students.

The Liverpool Scholars Programme

The University of Liverpool is committed to supporting talented students who wish to access higher education, regardless of their background.

The Liverpool Scholars Programme offers Year 12 students the chance to take part in a range of activities aimed at supporting their entry into higher education and preparing them for university, such as application guidance masterclasses, lectures and academic key skills workshops.

These activities are delivered in partnership with academics, undergraduates and the wider University, culminating in Scholars completing an academic assignment. Through the Liverpool Scholars Programme, we aim to nurture well informed, confident applicants who are well equipped for their University experience.

Benefits to students

After successfully completing the Liverpool Scholars Programme, students will receive additional consideration when applying to study at the University of Liverpool. This is dependant on the student meeting all other admissions criteria (for example, interview performance, subject specific requirements and GCSE grades). This additional consideration will include:

• A guaranteed conditional offer of a place at the University of Liverpool*
• An offer reduced by up to 2 A Level grades or equivalent

Other recognition

Students who successfully complete the Liverpool Scholars Programme and begin their undergraduate studies at the University of Liverpool will also receive the Liverpool Scholars Award (a non-repayable financial bursary to help towards tuition fees and living costs.)

Realising Opportunities

The University of Liverpool is a partner in the Realising Opportunities (RO) project. RO is a unique collaboration of leading, research intensive universities, working together to promote fair access and social mobility for students from groups under-represented in higher education.

RO was launched in August 2009 and provides able students with skills and information to help them to make informed decisions about their future and to raise their aspirations to progress to a leading research intensive university. Students are supported throughout the programme by their local RO university. Schools and colleges will be targeted by partner institutions to be involved in RO

Successful completion of the RO Programme gives students the opportunity to have their achievements recognised through UCAS, resulting in additional consideration and the potential for alternative offers from the RO universities. Realising Opportunities students who also complete the programme and transition to the University of Liverpool will be eligible for the the Realising Opportunities Award, a bursary of £2,000, available as a programme fee waiver of £2,000 or as a cash bursary of £2,000.

To take part in the Realising Opportunities (RO) Programme you must meet the eligibility criteria.  Applications to the RO Programme are made in the Autumn Term of Year 12.
