The University of Liverpool Bar Society successfully held the final of its internal mooting competition on 20 March 2025 at Liverpool Crown Court.

Organised by the Bar Society’s committee, which had been responsible for judging competitors throughout the competition, the event ran with support from the Liverpool Crown Court staff.

Taking place from October to March, the competition saw students from all years at the University of Liverpool Law School, as well as those from the University of Law (BPC), mooting their cases in the roles of Appellant and Respondent. The competition provides a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their advocacy skills—an essential quality chambers seek when recruiting pupils.

A distinguished panel of guest judges presided over the final, featuring barristers from 7 Harrington Street Chambers (Jamie Baxter, Peter Causton, Andrew Cousins), Atlantic Chambers (Craig Fahey), Exchange Chambers (Nicola Daley) and Linenhall Chambers (Frances Willmott), as well as solicitor Daniel Fox (Brooks Macdonald), alongside HHJ Swinnerton and HHJ Brandon from Liverpool Crown Court.

All winners of the final were awarded prestigious mini-pupillage's at either 7 Harrington Street Chambers, Chavasse Court Chambers or Charterhouse Chambers.

Aimee Sladen, President of the Bar Society and LLB student at Liverpool Law School, said: "All our competitors had an amazing time, and we are excited to see where the future takes them. We are so proud of how far all of our competitors throughout the competition have come. With an unprecedented 155 competitors to begin with, this year has seen the society full of talented advocates. I would like to thank all those that attended the final to support our wonderful finalists."
