Law academic appointed expert for work on freedom of expression and intellectual property rights
Liverpool Law School’s Dr Sabine Jacques has been appointed as an expert for the Columbia Global Freedom of Expression, due to her contributions to the field of freedom of the arts and intellectual property rights. This reflects her innovative research on the complex interactions between freedom of expression and intellectual property law.
As part of the Columbia Global Freedom of Expression network, Dr Sabine Jacques will join a global team dedicated to advancing free expression and information rights.
Columbia Global Freedom of Expression collaborates with an international network of lawyers, practitioners, activists, and academics who specialise in freedom of expression and freedom of information. These experts work across the globe to advance the initiative’s mission, with the diverse expertise aiming to support robust legal frameworks that uphold and promote fundamental rights in various jurisdictions.
Speaking of the appointment, Dr Sabine Jacques, Senior Lecturer, Liverpool Law School, shared:

Dr Sabine Jacques’ research focusses on three pivotal areas: the balance between freedom of expression and intellectual property rights, promoting cultural diversity in creative industries through copyright and algorithmic enforcement of intellectual property law.
Her continued research promises to shape future discussions on how best to balance creative rights and freedoms in an increasingly AI-driven creative landscape.
