What to do if you have immigration status in the UK and your pink immigration card – Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) – says ’31.12.2024’?

See below for how to make an e-visa account with the Home Office.

Information from Liverpool Law Clinic

The Law Clinic is not able to help all its clients with this process. Please can you try to do it yourself. We are not able to help with technical problems – that is for the Home Office.

NOTE that the Home Office is sending emails about this issue to staff at the Law Clinic but they don’t include any information about which client it is so we have no way of knowing.  If you can’t create your account yet, don’t worry, just keep trying.  If it gets to September and you still can’t create your account please visit the Home Office web page: https://www.gov.uk/evisa

NOTE if your BRP has an expiry date BEFORE 31.12.2024 you must renew your leave to remain by applying before that date – preferably at least a month before.  The Law Clinic is sometimes able to help with renewals but will need at least 3 months’ notice, and sometimes we don’t have enough staff and student time to help you and we signpost you to others.

Information from GOV.UK

If your BRP is due to expire before 31 December 2024, to prove your immigration status after this date you will need to replace your BRP with an eVisa. The expiration of your BRP card does not affect your immigration status. However, starting in 2025, the way you prove your immigration status will change.

What do I need to do now?

Please take the following steps now:

Create a UKVI account to access your eVisa, which will replace your BRP.

To create your UKVI account, you will need:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your BRP Number
  • Your passport (if you do not have a BRP)
  • Access to an email address and phone number
  • Access to a smartphone

You should create your UKVI account at: https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa.
