World Day Against Trafficking Persons takes place annually on the 30th July, it serves as a reminder of the millions of people across the globe who are victims of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Jo Bezzano, an in-house solicitor at the Liverpool Law Clinic, provides legal assistance and support to victims of trafficking. In this blog, Jo discusses the difficulties victims of trafficking face when dealing with government systems, the complex nature of their situation and why the provision of legal aid is imperative in helping to protect and support victims of trafficking.

Rachel is one of our Liverpool Law School alumni, graduating with an LL.B (Hons) in 2014 and completing her PhD in 2020. Her PhD research looked at the provision of sexuality education across English secondary schools, from a children's rights perspective. Rachel is a non-practising Barrister and member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. Rachel now works at Lancaster University as a Lecturer in Law.

As you may have heard on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Friday 5 June 2020, Sustain — the Right to Food Campaign — has joined forces with the Good Law Project (co-claimant) and Doughty Street Chambers, to initiate legal proceedings against the government’s Department of Education for failing to take adequate action to ensure that all children have enough food – or the money, vouchers or holiday activity programmes to access food – over the summer holiday.

The final week of April is the University’s Wellbeing Week, in normal circumstances Wellbeing Week is filled with lots of activities around campus focusing on staff and student’s physical and mental wellbeing.\n\nWith the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Wellbeing Week is a lot different to previous years. The usual face-to-face activities have been replaced with online activities that staff and students can engage with remotely from their homes.
