Working with National and International Institutions
@MVRColombia research public representations of victims and ‘official’ memory of the Colombian conflict; it then translates findings into impacts by working with formal and informal institutions to find creative, inclusive ways to lend visibility to those persons and narratives that have been overlooked, especially the stories of women victims, and peacebuilders.
National Museum of Colombia
In conjunction with the National Museum of Colombia, MVR first developed ‘A Museum for Me’ materials and is now growing and adapting materials and activities for different institutions in Colombia and beyond.

Museo Afro
A Museum for Me is proud to be involved in the process of popular consultations for Colombia’s forthcoming Museo Afro, the country’s first national museum co-created by, for, and about the country’s large and diverse populations of African and Caribbean heritage. Working with the community engagement coordinator at the Museo Nacional de Colombia, Maria Monica Fuentes Leal, A Museum for Me has adapted its materials specifically for these consultations or ‘labs’ taking place in Cali, Cartagena, Valle del Cauca and around the country. Museum for Me materials and activities are providing a timely, accessible mechanism for spaces where the design, purposes, and content of the new Museo Afro are being imagined, visualised, and co-created.
Museo Legislativo de Mexico
A Museum For Me is delighted to be in conversation with Mexico’s Legislative Museum - member of the International Federation of Human Rights Museums (FIHRM) - and sharing ideas, products, and enthusiasm for future collaborations.
British Library
A Museum for Me is proud to be collaborating with the British Library Americas Collections. In 2021 Dr Iris Bachmann, Curator of Latin American Printed Collections, joined the @MVRColombia team as Honorary Research Fellow. Together, A Museum for Me and the British Library are supporting wider community engagement, and bringing stories of the conflict, through the prism of the diaspora, into the collections and the public domain.
ICOM
A Museum for Me presented its work and delivered a workshop at the annual conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), which took place in Prague in August 2022. As part of the Decoloniality group of CECA Latin America, A Museum for Me delivered the methodology for the workshop entitled “Migration in museums is a matter for everyone”.
TATE LIVERPOOL
The University of Liverpool enjoys a close and productive relationship with Tate Liverpool and so it was fitting that the Merseyside gallery was the first national institution in the UK to host A Museum for Me. In December 2019, mini museums made by Colombian women migrants in London from the group Mujer Diaspora, were taken to Tate Liverpool for ‘Tearing Up the Past’, an exhibition and workshop series staged as part of the annual ‘Being Human’ festival. Visitors of all ages enjoyed using A Museum for Me kits themselves to re-imagine the notion of museum, the objects it might contain, and the stories it could tell.
