‘Italian Icons: Dante and Pinocchio hand in hand’
Lecture by Professor Stefano Jossa (Royal Holloway & Palermo), title ‘Italian Icons: Dante and Pinocchio hand in hand’
Arguably the two most iconic symbols of Italy and Italianness, Dante and Pinocchio share the same destiny of representing the nation, both culturally and politically. Despite their differences in history and literature (real/fictional; human/wooden; Medieval/modern), they have become markers of Italian identity and character. How and why has this happened?
