Novelist and scriptwriter Cristina Campos (Barcelona, 1975) is the guest author for the second edition of Vessels of communication (Rewriting and story transfer in the Hispanic World). Pan de limón con semillas de amapola [Lemon Bread with Poppy Seeds] (2016) is her first novel, a story of female friendship. Her second novel, Historias de mujeres casadas [Stories of Married Women] was the finalist of the Planeta Prize in 2022. Cristina Campos will talk about her writing process and the intertexual and intemedial references in her novels. This talk will be followed by a screening of the film Pan de limón con semillas de amapola (Benito Zambrano, 2022).
Vessels of communication (Vasos comunicantes) is a project led by Dr Carmen Herrero within the Film, Languages and Media in Education (FLAME) research group at Manchester Metropolitan University that seeks to reflect on literary, artistic and filmic intertextuality through the reflections of novelists, playwrights, poets, film and television directors, creators of comics and video games. Their voices and works will guide the exploration of the relationships between audiovisual, literary and digital culture, and illustrate the sources, influences, traditions, imaginings, processes and practices that feed the enriching metamorphosis of stories in print and on screens in the Spanish and Latin American world. The project also considers how to engage students of Spanish with these creations, in collaboration with the Film in Language Teaching Association (FILTA).

Synopsis: In a small town located in the island of Mallorca, Anna and Marina, two sisters who were separated when they were teenagers, meet again to sell a bakery they´ve inherited from a mysterious woman they know nothing about.
The two sisters have led very different lives. Anna has barely left the island and is unhappily married to a man she no longer loves. Marina travels the world working as a doctor for an NGO. As the sisters try to uncover the secrets hidden behind their enigmatic benefactor and her property, they are forced to confront old family disputes and make up for lost time.
