The student-led German language newspaper, Scausländer Zeitung, has been taken over by a new cohort of German students at the Department of Languages, Cultures and Film.
The Scausländer Zeitung is back! Work started back in 2021 and was first published in 2022, the online newspaper posts student written articles on a wide range of topics. From analysing gender inequality in football and in life in general, to year abroad experiences, to the best places to eat and drink in Liverpool – there is something for everyone! Outside of articles, we also post videos in the German language and creative writing.
On Wednesday 13 March 2024 we were able to hold a launch party in the Language Lounge to celebrate this new era of the Scausländer Zeitung. We presented the changes we had made to the website, some of our new articles and even showed one of our videos on how best to spend a day in Frankfurt. In the spirit of sharing German language and culture with fellow students, there were of course many pretzels on offer, alongside other refreshments for the attendees.
We have already gained so much from this experience, not just improving our German language and tech skills, we have also had the unique opportunity to present the newspaper to German Ambassador Miguel Berger. While it was slightly intimidating to present the Scausländer in German to such an important and influential person, it was a proud moment to show our work and our ideas. To find out more about the ambassador’s visit you can read the blog post.
We are excited about what is to come with the newspaper and will continue to post new articles over the coming months. You can access all of our articles, videos and short stories.
