Focusing on outcomes

The Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) Programme began in October 2009 with funding of £3.525m from the EPSRC.

Designed to run for three years, the KTA's purpose is to develop the technology readiness of EPSRC-funded research carried out at the University, in order to maximise returns on investment.

We identified three key impact areas on which to focus activity:-

Groups from throughout the University were invited to apply for funding from the grant on a competitive basis, via detailed project proposals.

These proposals had to demonstrate clearly the project's potential to increase knowledge transfer opportunities and achieve lasting impacts, such as:-

  • the transfer of research to industry
  • the development of prototypes and trials
  • the formation of R&D joint ventures with industry
