Account lockout
Account lockout is a security measure to help protect your University account. Following a number of failed logon attempts using an incorrect password, your account will be locked.
The lock out will be be for a short period only. After that time, once you enter the correct password the 'count' will be reset.
Account lock out is standard practice for online services such as bank accounts.
What to do if your account is locked out
If you become locked out of your account after entering an incorrect password you need only wait for a short period and then log on with the correct password. If, however, you remain locked out you will need to contact the IT Service Desk.
Minimising the risk of account lock out
You can minimise the risk of getting locked out. Check and act on the following advice:
- Misconfigured mobile phones and tablets
- Storing invalid credentials on machines running Windows 7
- Storing invalid credentials on a Mac
