We are all now settling into the new academic year, and IT Services is continuing to work hard to enhance your digital experience while working and studying at the University. From helping you keep your work safe to launching My Liverpool, the new student portal, as the trees around campus brighten to into their autumnal hue, we are continuing to make the digital technology available at the University better than ever.

Here's everything that’s happening this autumn to help you have a great digital experience in your work and studies at the University.

What’s new from IT Services?

My Liverpool: the new student portal from IT Services

The new student portal, My Liverpool launched on 22 October 2024, bringing together all content that was formerly held in Liverpool Life and the student intranet in one easy to access system. With an improved look and feel with better navigation and accessibility, My Liverpool significantly improves the experience of everyone at the University, while retaining all the key aspects from Liverpool Life and the student intranet.

How to keep your work safe throughout your studies

Our students produce a lot of documents while studying at the University, from notes to assignments, and will want to keep these safe, secure and accessible. Portable physical storage, such as an external hard drive or pen drive, might seem like the ideal solution, but they can be easily broken, lost or develop faults which cause the data saved on them to be lost. IT Services cannot help you recover data lost from physical storage, but there are a range of file storage solutions available to keep your data safe throughout your studies.

Introduction to Continuous Improvement workshop - 6 November 2024

This two-and-a-half-hour face-to-face workshop for staff will broaden your understanding of Continuous Improvement and its approaches, touching on a range of topics.

Upgrade to MiCollab

A new MiCollab client which enhances the security of the product is now available and being rolled out to Managed Windows Service (MWS) computers.

Reviewing the PCs connected to our network

As part of work to ensure devices are adequately secured when connecting to the University network and accessing University systems, IT Services is currently reviewing the Managed Windows Service (MWS) devices connecting to our network.

What do I need to do?

My Liverpool will be accessible at: https://my.liverpool.ac.uk/. IT Services will be working with you via the Customer Experience team to establish what you need My Liverpool to do and will use your feedback to introduce even more new functionality from early 2025. Students can also join our Student Digital Engagement Group (StuDEG), a community of students the University calls upon to help us research and test our digital products. This will involve helping IT Services figure out what needs to go on My Liverpool and gives the opportunity to earn rewards in return.

A range of file storage solutions are available to all staff and students and, if you are conducting research, IT Services offers detailed guidance on where to store your research data. For any files you need to store on your M: Drive, you can connect to this on a Windows 10 PC or Mac, however it is recommended that you save your individual work to your OneDrive wherever possible, as this cloud based solution is accessible from anywhere at any time and offers a number of options for file sharing and recovery.

There are limited places available at the Introduction to Continuous Improvement workshop on 6 November, so book now to avoid disappointment.

If you are on a MiCollab call when the new client is pushed to your computer, your call will be terminated, and you will not be able to access MiCollab until the process is completed. To prevent any inconvenience to you, it is recommended that you upgrade your MiCollab client using Install University Applications (IUA) at a time which suits you.
