Accessibility Festival
Join us from Monday 30 September to Friday 4 October, for a collection of events featuring both University of Liverpool staff and external speakers. Sessions will cover topics such as accessible software and creating accessible digital content.
Register your attendance and choose the sessions which interest you most, don’t forget to let us know if you plan on attending online or in person.
Open to staff and students, these events are a great place to learn more about inclusivity and build your network, especially for those new on campus. Information about the support available on campus as well as the winder Liverpool city community will also be available.

Monday 30 September
- 11.00am - 11.45am – Library support & resources (online)
This session will outline the support, and services provided by the University of Liverpool Libraries. We’ll explore how to access RNIB book share, Census and ebooks, as well as the accessibility room and resources.
- 1.00pm - 1.45pm – EquatIO software (online)
Calling all maths students! EquatIO is fantastic software which allows you to type, handwrite or dictate an expression which will be converted into accurate digital math. Don’t miss this great demonstration directly from the company themselves!
Tuesday 1 October
- 1.00pm - 2.00pm – Strawberry Field (online and in-person)
For those who would like to attend in person, this session will be held in room 507 in Cedar house, University of Liverpool. Don’t worry if you’re not able to attend on campus, the session will also be available online and includes an overview of the Strawberry Field Steps to Work programme. Created to empower young adults aged 18-25 with learning difficulties, who are neurodivergent or have barriers to employment into paid work.
We will hear what impact this programme has had for young people across the city and what upcoming opportunities are available to be part of, with an opportunity for Q&A with them.

Wednesday 2 October
- 10.00am - 11.00am – Accessible social media (online)
Sarah Kate O’Hara from the Institute of Population Health, will provide her top accessible social media tips, with real world examples. This session is a must for anyone who aspires to create content for brands or for those of you who already do!
- 11.15am – 12.00pm – Panopto accessibility (online)
From IT Services, Tracy Hamilton will guide you through Panopto, the University’s lecture capture software and how to make content more accessible within the system.
Thursday 3 October
- 10.00am – 10.45am – Aventido (online)
Assistive technology specialists from Aventido will provide a demonstration of four of their tools; Pro-Study, Study Key, Scanmarker and TextAid.
- 11.20am – 12.20pm – Vision Aid (online)
In this session, we will cover handheld video magnifiers, transportable video magnifiers (with and without speech), computer connectable video magnifiers (with and without speech), wearable video magnifiers, software, mobile OCR devices and ergonomics.
- 1.30pm - 2.30pm - Recite Me
In this session, we’ll be looking at the Website Accessibility Assistive Toolbar, which works across all University webpages and assists in making web content compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This will include a live demo and a Q&A session. - 2.45pm – 3.30pm Glean software introduction and demonstration (online)
Glean is a web-based application, ideal for note taking in lectures. Join this event to learn more about capturing audio, uploading slides, diagrams and making text notes alongside each recording.
Friday 4 October
- 10.00am – 11.00am – Creating inclusive rubrics (online)
Exclusively for staff, Laura Bonnett will discuss the need to modify marking rubrics to make them more inclusive for students with additional needs and those with English as an additional language.
- 11.15am – 12.00pm – Accessibility and Inclusive support with digital tools (online)
The Centre for Innovation in Education will be exploring guidance and support around accessibility for digital tools used in teaching such as Canvas and Blackboard Ally. We’ll also explore pedagogic guidance around EDI, to support more inclusive learning and teaching practice. This session is available to staff only.
