Technology is everywhere, but it’s often hidden in plain sight.

IT Services invited our entire University community down to explore #TheDigitalDimension with our optical illusion event last week as part of the department’s new 2024 YOUR I.T. campaign.

Two huge floor installations have been laid in University Square revealing tech hidden underneath the surface. The idea? Stand on one of the pink square markers for the best angle and snap a picture. The flat floor design will transform into a three-dimensional illusion, creating a very cool photograph.

With the sunshine kindly shining, a fantastic launch day was had with thousands of staff and students flocking to University Square to check out #TheDigitalDimension. We gave away hundreds of items of YOUR I.T. merch and over 300 free juices from the wonderful Freshly Squeezed.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day revolved around engaging with our University community. We were thrilled to witness numerous entries from both staff and students for our optical illusion photograph competition. The quality of submissions thus far has been truly remarkable. However, the completion of the launch event does not signify the end of #TheDigitalDimension journey... there are ways you can still get involved:

  1. University square illusions will be up until Friday 24 May, and you have until then to enter the competition.

  2. Keep an eye out for installations across campus to take part. #TheDigitalDimension optical illusions are also outside the Sydney Jones Library, Greenbank Student Village and Leahurst Vet School – spot them, snap a pic, and submit before 24 May to get involved.

  3. Follow @LivUniIT on Instagram, LinkedIn, and X for more event information and subscribe to our newsletter for regular updates, tips, and insights into IT Services as well as future opportunities to engage with the team.
