Accessibility has become a pivotal factor in ensuring that all members of the University of Liverpool have equal opportunities to thrive academically and professionally. From physical accommodations to technological advancements, educational institutions are increasingly recognising the importance of creating inclusive environments where every student and staff member can participate and succeed.

IT Services plays a key role in harnessing technological solutions geared towards accessibility by providing both software and hardware to staff and students. We also have an assistive technology specialist to support and provide training, where required.

Some of our IT Services staff will also be hosting an event for Global Accessibility Awareness Day in May. The event, Liverpool Accessibility Awareness Day, will take place on Wednesday 8 May from 10am until 4pm in the Rendall Building, Lecture Room 5. Sessions will be run by the Disability Support team, IT Services, Psychology, the Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE), the Academy, and Disability Coaches, and will include topics such as:

• Generative AI tools to support accessibility
• Accessibility in social media
• Inclusive curriculum design
• Accessibility tools and software available for staff and students
• Creating accessible digital content

Staff and students are welcome, just sign up now to confirm your attendance and let us know which sessions interest you.

What is Global Accessibility Awareness Day?

This year, Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) takes place on Thursday 16 May. We have chosen to run our event early to avoid clashes with exams for students who would like to attend. The purpose of GAAD is to raise awareness about digital access and inclusion and teach people how to create more inclusive spaces for all. Learn more about the GAAD Foundation.
