The Higher Education sector is at an increased risk of malicious attacks, putting personal and research data at risk, making Data Protection and Information Security a crucial element of our obligatory staff training suite.

This e-learning is key to embedding effective data protection and security practices to protect the University, its data and infrastructure.

The module has been re-launched for the 2022-23 academic year. University Secretary and General Counsel, Kevan Ryan said: “We’re asking all staff to prioritise an hour of their time to complete the module and quiz. With a rapid increase in cyber-attacks in the sector and in the context of the new hybrid working framework, completion of this training is essential”.

Who needs to complete the module?

All staff working across the University must complete the module. It is designed to give you an overview of data protection legislation and provide practical information on how it applies in your day-to-day work.

You need to complete the training by the end of April 2023.

How to access the module

You can access the training on Canvas using an up-to-date version of Chrome or Firefox. It should take no longer than an hour to complete with completion being recorded after successfully passing the quiz (80+%).

By the end of the module, you should understand your responsibilities in handling personal data and how to apply relevant security measures to both data and electronic devices.
