Staff profiles update underway

The presentation of staff profiles published on the University website is being updated by the Digital Communications and CSD teams, following detailed feedback from academics.

The update, scheduled to take place after Easter, will allow academics to enhance the information made publically available about them and will include social media links, selected publications, administrative roles, letters and degrees, more detailed research collaboration information and three detailed research and teaching interests supported by images.

The update will also include changes to Tulip to make it easier for staff to enter their details.

Over 500 members of academic staff were surveyed last year, providing useful feedback on how they felt the information should be best presented. The new profile template has been developed to present staff members online in a modern and accessible format.

Mike Deyes, Head of Digital Communications said: "Staff profiles are a vitally important part of our website, particularly to help enable research collaboration.  For some departmental websites,  up to half of all web traffic is acquired by staff profile pages, mainly through search engines such as Google.

"The changes will make staff information easier to access, whether that be for colleagues, potential students or fellow academics looking for opportunities for collaboration."

Further enhancements

Other developments will be considered in the future, including further enhancements for news stories and postgraduate studentships listings.

Darren Jones, Research and information Systems Manager,  from CSD, said: "We are always keen to hear suggestions on how to improve TULIP.  This is a great opportunity for us to provide a more flexible and intuitive way of easily updating your staff profile, all from one place."
