There is so much out there around AI. We wanted to keep things as simple as possible. Here are some ways you can get started today, at no cost, no matter your starting point!

We all know by now that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a buzzword—it's transforming industries and redefining the skills needed to thrive in the modern workforce. AI is a strategic move, there is no doubt about it

Our University of Liverpool community has access to LinkendIn Learning which offers a wealth of resources to help you self-enable in AI. Here are our tips on making the most of these resources:

1. Start with the basics

If you’re new to AI, it’s essential to build a strong foundation. LinkedIn Learning offers introductory courses that cover the fundamentals, such as 'Artificial Intelligence Foundations: Machine Learning and ‘Introduction to AI These courses break down complex concepts into digestible lessons, giving you a solid understanding of AI principles, terminology, and applications.

Tip: Start with short, beginner-friendly courses to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Progress gradually to more complex topics as your confidence grows.

2. Tailor your learning path

AI is a broad field. LinkedIn Learning allows you to customise your learning path based on your interests and goals. Whether you're a data analyst wanting to dive into machine learning, a marketer interested in AI-driven customer insights, or just want to know how AI can be useful in your daily life, there's a course for you.

Tip: Use LinkedIn Learning’s personalised recommendations feature to find courses that align with your goals. You can also explore learning paths that bundle several courses into a comprehensive curriculum, such as ‘Advance Your Skills in AI.’

3. Play with AI – get hands on

AI isn’t just about absorbing information—it’s about applying that knowledge to real-world problems. Many LinkedIn Learning courses offer practical exercises and projects that allow you to put theory into practice. For instance, courses like ‘Applied AI: Building Projects with Machine Learning provide step-by-step guidance on creating AI models and deploying them.

Tip: Work on projects that are relevant to your industry or personal interests. This not only reinforces your learning but also helps you build a portfolio of AI projects that you can showcase.

4. Stay updated with the latest trends

AI is a rapidly evolving field, with new developments and breakthroughs happening regularly. LinkedIn Learning’s courses are updated frequently to reflect the latest trends and technologies. Courses like ‘AI Trends offer insights into cutting-edge advancements and how they impact various industries.

Tip: Make it a habit to revisit LinkedIn Learning to explore new courses and updates periodically. Staying current with AI trends will help you remain competitive and informed.

5. Leverage expert instructors

One of the biggest advantages of LinkedIn Learning is access to courses taught by industry experts. These instructors bring real-world experience and insights to the table, making the learning process more engaging and practical. Don’t hesitate to explore courses led by recognised AI professionals and thought leaders.

Tip: Engage with instructors by participating in Q&A sessions and discussions, if available. You can also follow them on LinkedIn to stay connected and continue learning from their posts and updates.

6. Join AI communities and networks

Learning doesn’t happen in isolation. LinkedIn itself is a powerful platform for connecting with AI professionals, joining relevant groups, and participating in discussions. Engaging with a community of learners can provide support, motivation, and additional resources.

Tip: After completing AI courses, share your certificates and achievements on your LinkedIn profile. This not only showcases your skills but also opens the door to networking opportunities with other AI enthusiasts and professionals.

7. Commit to continuous learning

AI is not a one-and-done subject. As technologies evolve, new skills and knowledge areas will emerge. Committing to continuous learning is key to staying relevant. LinkedIn Learning offers a subscription model that allows you to access a vast library of courses, so you can keep learning as new content becomes available.

Tip: Set aside regular time for learning—whether it's an hour a day or a few hours a week. Consistency is crucial in mastering AI.

Arguably, enabling yourself on AI is one of the best investments you can make in your future. With LinkedIn Learning, you have access to a wide range of resources tailored to different skill levels and career paths. By starting with the basics, engaging in hands-on projects, staying updated with trends, and connecting with the AI community, you can position yourself as an asset in the AI-driven world.
