Our 2024 IT projects and collaboration highlights

As 2024 comes to a close, IT Services is proud to reflect on our achievements, updates, and collaborations that have shaped this year. We couldn’t possibly list everything that has happened, but here’s a look back at some of the IT project highlights for the University this year:
Growing a technology community at our University
- We launched our flagship department campaign YOUR I.T. to empower our staff and students to navigate the digital world
- With experiential events like the Digital Dimension, the launch of our newsletter YOUR I.T. Insight, and our blog Behind the Screen, we aim to demystify technology and come together around digital topics
Cyber security and data protection
- This year, we launched the Behind the Hack campaign to raise awareness about digital safety
- Anti-phishing simulations and new training videos have been introduced to strengthen our defences
- The University also achieved ISO 27001 certification, ensuring top-tier data security standards
Empowering learning and teaching
- We introduced the My Liverpool student portal, simplifying access to academic resources and schedules
- Working with the Academy, the launch of LearnWell, our new Learning Management System, streamlined staff training by consolidating courses and integrating tools like LinkedIn Learning
- In teaching spaces, we rolled out updates to Panopto, ensuring smoother lecture and seminar recordings
Modernising technology
- The availability to upgrade to Windows 11 on staff computers enhanced system performance and security
- We introduced Microsoft Bookings with me, allowing tailored appointment scheduling synced with Outlook calendars
- We upgraded Microsoft Teams from the Classic version to optimise collaborative working across the University
Sustainability and inclusion
- Our new sustainable printing approach reduced waste and improved efficiency
- We also celebrated diversity through initiatives highlighting LGBTQIA+ tech pioneers and Black History Month narratives
- We continued to drive inclusive working using assistive technology
Research IT and community initiatives
- The Children Growing Up in Liverpool (C-GULL) study launched to explore early-life health factors
- The N8CIR Bede Internship Programme supported research in digital fields
- The new Liverpool Computational Shared Facility (LCSF 4) expanded data processing capabilities for researchers
