Accessibility

The University provides a wide range of accessibility software and hardware to support students with a disability.

The assistive technology specialist will be available to give one-to-one training if required. Generally, an appointment will be made for training upon collection of the hardware and software when allocated by the Disability Advice and Guidance team. Alternatively, you can book training directly by emailing: atsupport@liverpool.ac.uk.

Software

Access to accessibility software can be obtained in two ways:

  1. By a referral from our Disability, Advice and Guidance team which will then be supplied for installation on a student’s personal device by the Assistive Technology Specialist.
  2. A wide range of software programs are available to install on university computers around campus. Simply click the Install University Applications icon on the desktop. From Category list select Accessibility and then choose the application from the list.

Our software page provides further information about each application and includes some short tutorial videos to get you started.

Hardware

Specialist hardware items, such as hearing loops, laptops and Dictaphones, among others, are available for loan to students who may require them, subject to approval from the Disability Advice and Guidance team.

Specific devices can be ordered and loaned to support students on a case-by-case basis. The Disability Advice and Guidance team will discuss individual requirements with students to make recommendations and the assistive technology specialist will source the appropriate hardware.

For more information, visit our hardware page.

Accessible options for staff

All software available via Install University Application on Managed Windows Devices (MWS) are accessible to staff. Glean can be provided by emailing the Assistive Technology Specialist for access. The University has a limited number of licenses for Dragon Dictate, please raise a request via the IT Service Desk with a completed Display Screen Equipment (DSE) form attached.

Please note: if you’re looking for an alternative dictation option, refer to the Office 365 section on our software page.
