Entry requirements

You can find details of qualifications from your country below.

Some of these qualifications may be accepted as equivalent to our typical academic requirements. For others, we may require you to complete a Foundation Certificate or Pre-Master's course first.

Undergraduate degrees
Qualification Details
Intermediate/Higher Secondary School Certificate Students who obtain the certificate are advised to complete a Foundation Certificate at the University of Liverpool International College or an equivalent foundation programme in order to be considered for undergraduate study.
Bachelor's (Pass) Students who have completed two years of study to obtain a bachelor's (Pass) will be considered for year one entry to a bachelor's degree programme if they achieve an average score of 60 to 65 per cent minimum.
Bachelor's (Honours) Those with a three-year bachelor's (Honours) may be considered for year two entry to a bachelor's degree programme if a minimum score of 60 to 65 per cent is achieved.
A levels, International Baccalaureate Students offering A levels, the international Baccaulaureate Diploma with a minimum of 28 points or SATs can apply for direct entry to year one of undergraduate programmes.

Don't meet our entry requirements for undergraduate?

If you have good high school grades but don't meet our entry requirements, don't worry. You could apply for a place on a Foundation Certificate. These courses are delivered on campus at the University of Liverpool International College.

Successful completion of a Foundation Certificate, at the required level and with good attendance, will guarantee your place on your chosen University of Liverpool undergraduate degree.

Master's courses
Qualification Details
Academic Students who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree or a two year bachelor's degree and two year master's degree can be considered, but the exact grade requirement will depend upon the grading system used:
  • A minimum Grade of 60%, 65% or 70% depending on the institution
  • A minimum GPA of 2.8, 3.0 or 3.2 depending on the institution
  • Some programmes have additional requirements, for example, students applying for MBA programmes must have at least three years relevant work experience.
We can offer a level of flexibility for applicants on a case-by-case basis. For example, for some courses we may consider applicants who have achieved the following:
  • Tier 1: 2.6/4
  • Tier 2: 2.8/4
  • Tier 3: 3/4.

Don’t meet our master’s entry requirements?

If you hold a bachelors' degree or equivalent but don't meet our entry requirements, don't worry. You could apply for a place on a Pre-Master's course.

These courses are delivered on campus at the University of Liverpool International College. Successful completion of a Pre-Master's, at the required level and with good attendance, will guarantee your place on your chosen University of Liverpool master's degree.

Postgraduate research
Qualification Details
Academic Each application is assessed on its own merits, however students will usually be expected to hold both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Previous exposure to research/thesis writing is highly desirable.

English language requirements

To study at the University of Liverpool, you'll need to show you meet our English language requirements.

We accept a variety of international English language tests and country-specific qualifications you can use to demonstrate your English language ability. We also offer Pre-Sessional English courses if you need to improve your English language skills.

Tuition fees and living costs

Our tuition fees vary depending on your course and your confirmed fee status as either an international or UK (‘home') student. You'll find our tuition fees listed on each course page.

You'll also need to budget for covering your living costs while studying with us. This includes your accommodation and travel expenses, such as flights to the UK.

Scholarships and bursaries

One way we can help you pay for your studies is with our Advancement Scholarships.

You could receive a tuition fee discount worth up to £5,000 for eligible master's students, up to £5,000 for eligible undergraduate students, or up to £2,500 for University of Liverpool graduates.

We also offer a variety of other scholarships and bursaries for eligible international students to help make studying at university more affordable.

You'll need to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) if you're looking to join an undergraduate degree.

You may wish to use an approved educational advisor, known as an agent, when you apply to study with us.
